Porsche's forthcoming Taycan EV looks pretty awesome, which means it also looks pretty expensive. But according to Porsche, it won't be  too  expensive...   Porsche intends to price the Taycan between the Cayenne and Panamera. In Europe, that translates to a starting price above 80,000 euros (about $92,000). Don't expect it to be that expensive in the US, though. Here, the Cayenne starts around $66,000, and a base Panamera will run you $85,000. Split the difference between the two and you get a starting price of $75,500. That's just $700 more than the  Audi E-Tron , which will start at $74,800 in the US. The second generation car with a 60 kWh battery is scheduled to go into production early next year. With the larger battery, the LEAF will have an EPA range of 225 miles. The larger battery will make the LEAF more competitive with the Chevy Bolt, which has a range of 238 miles.  The not so good news is the larger battery will bump the starting price of the LEAF by about $5,500 compared to the existing car with the 40 kWh battery. Google Maps is now helping EV drivers figure out where to charge their vehicles. A new feature is rolling out today that will let you search for charging stations. Just search for "EV charging stations" or "EV charging," and Google Maps will locate those nearby. It will also tell you what types of ports are available, how many there are as well as the station's charging speeds, and businesses with charging stations will now have a link that will lead you to more information about their setup. As  Porsche  prepares to launch its fully electric car, the  Taycan  sedan (née the Mission E concept), it faces a different problem: How to stand out in a field full of cool, capable EVs from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW, Audi, and others, along with old dog Tesla. Porsche’s solution, though, looks a lot like Tesla’s.  Unable to offer a rousing engine note or beautifully precise gearbox, the automaker this week unveiled the “electric pit stop”—a setup that can add 250 miles worth of charge to a battery in just 15 minutes. Porsche says it plans to equip its nearly 200 US dealers with the setup, which will at least serve the more wealthy areas where their buyers live and drive. The automaker announced it will launch its first electric vehicles in 2020, and part of this plan involves bringing back the rotary engine. Two EVs are in the works. The first is a pure EV, while the other uses a battery and a rotary engine that acts as a range extender. This small engine recharges the battery when needed, increasing maximum driving range. Mazda says the rotary engine is also capable of burning liquefied petroleum gas, and it can be used as an electricity source during emergencies. By 2030, Mazda expects 95 percent of its vehicles will utilize an internal combustion engine in tandem with some form of electrification. The other 5 percent of its vehicles will run solely on electric power.
